OUR VISION
Our vision is to create a place where people can live and work, where they can enjoy the benefits of access to first class schools and healthcare and where they and the wider community have access to good quality community facilities and recreation, all within walking distance of their homes.
Do you agree with our Vision?

What would be your Vision for a sustainable community?

OUR OBJECTIVES
  • To restore the land by removing or mitigating all traces of the present contamination
  • To open up a large part of the site to public access as a resource for formal and informal recreation for the benefit of the local community
  • To provide an environmentally and socially sustainable development, with exceptional standards of energy conservation, efficiency and innovative design.
Do you agree that these are the right Objectives?

What other Objectives would you set?

DEVELOPMENT PRINCIPLES
We have illustrated 3 potential alternatives for realising our Objectives.
Do you agree that we should limit development to between 40% and 60% of the site?

Do you think we are right to concentrate our development proposals on the western half of the site?

Do you agree that setting aside about a fifth of the site for nature conservation is appropriate?

Should we keep the fishing lakes as they are?

What other principles would be important to consider?

OUR CONCEPT PLANS
Which of our concept plans do you think makes the best use of the land?

KEY ISSUES
A sustainable community is about how we live.
Should we think about ways we can reduce consumption of fuel such as electricity and gas?

Should we include plans to generate our own heat and power – from windpower or the sun?

Should we plan to harvest rainwater and extend household recycling?

Should we consider providing a Local Centre with shops?

Should we provide a community centre within the development?

Do you think we need to provide a new primary school?

Thinking about the health needs of the community – is it easy to get to see the doctor or a dentist?

Would you welcome a new health centre?

Should we provide a special area for dog walkers?

Would you welcome a range of children’s play facilities?

Would you want any areas monitored with CCTV?

Are there any community provisions you would like to see within the residential development that we haven’t mentioned?

Our aim is to provide the sort of homes that local people want with a wide range different sorts of homes and a wide range of opportunities to get onto the housing ladder.
Do you think this vision of an inclusive community is right?

Do you agree we should widen housing choice and make more homes affordable to more people?

Should we make special provision for elderly residents?

Is there a need to build bungalows as well as houses?

Should we be targeting particular parts of the community – for example young families, or those with older children?

Do you think the housing area should be bigger than shown?

Do you think the housing area should be smaller than shown?

Thinking about creating different types of employment
Should the scheme make provision for local jobs?

Do you think Concept 2 or Concept 3 provide sufficient land for employment?

Do you think the concept plans show employment in the right part of the site?

Should we break up the employment area into smaller parts and spread it around the site?

Should the community itself be engaged in building its facilities – upskilling and training local people and creating a sense of ownership (“We built that”)?

What sort of jobs would you like to see created on the site?

Are there any types of business that you don’t think would be suitable – warehousing for example?

Our vision proposes that about half the site would become public open space and we have listed some of the sports and recreation opportunities that could be created.
Do you think we have the proportion of built development to open space about right?

Do you agree with our reasoning for proposing that the eastern half of the site should remain undeveloped?

Do you think we should reserve as much as 20 acres for nature conservation interests?

Do you think this is shown in the right part of the site?

Do you think we should exclude the public from this area?

Should we fill in some of the ponds?

Should we keep the pony paddocks along Chertsey Road?

What are the most important recreational activities we should cater for?

What other uses should we consider for the eastern half of the site?

We want to encourage walking and cycling and create a community that is properly connected with its neighbours.
Do you think that two points of road access is the best solution?

Do you think they should give bus priority?

Do you think we should provide a loop road within the site to encourage buses closer to where people live?

Would you use the bus more if it stopped at the end of the road where you now live?

Do you agree that we have shown the road junctions in suitable places?

Do you agree that the main pedestrian and cycle routes should cross Ashford Road and Chertsey Road close to the proposed junctions and should we provide light controlled crossings?

Do you think other pedestrian/cycle crossings are needed?

Do you think we should try and provide pedestrian/cycleway connections to the south and west?
