Background
WHY ARE WE CONSULTING YOU?
Hounslow Borough Council is preparing a new plan for the Borough that will set out a vision for growth over the next 15 years. The Council expects to provide at least 4,450 new homes every year up to 2016/17. It also needs to consider the broad locations for additional housing in the years to 2026 - although the London Plan requirement for this extended period isn’t yet fixed.
The purpose of this consultation is to encourage a debate about the potential contribution of land in Lower Feltham. We believe it could contribute to these needs, help revitalise the area and achieve a number of other long-standing community objectives.
WHO ARE WE?
The Strategic Land Planning Trust (“the Trust”), the owners, has appointed an experienced team of specialists to help explore the future potential of the land. The lead consultants include:
- DLP Consulting Group: a national practice of town planning, masterplanning, landscape and transportation consultants who have responsibility for preparing the planning proposals and for transport and access issues
- Chelgate: a communications consultancy who are leading the public consultation exercise
- Mott MacDonald: an international environmental engineering consultancy who are advising us on ground conditions, ecology and related matters
- Smiths Gore: a long established firm of chartered surveyors who have responsibility for the day to day upkeep of the site.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to create a place where people can live and work, where they can enjoy the benefits of access to first class schools and healthcare and where they and the wider community have access to good quality community facilities and recreation, all within walking distance of their homes.
OUR OBJECTIVES ARE
- To restore the land by removing or mitigating all traces of the present contamination
- To open up a large part of the site to public access as a resource for formal and informal recreation for the benefit of the local community
- To provide an environmentally and socially sustainable development, with exceptional standards of energy conservation, efficiency and innovative design.
HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE OUR AIMS?
We believe that our objectives can best be achieved if the development proposals are community led. Over the past few months we have been discussing some general principles with local stakeholders– and it is now time to take in a wider cross section of public opinion which will help shape our proposals.
We want to consult with the local community at the beginning, not as an afterthought.
